The trip from Tarija to Tupiza took a hair raising route through the darkness along narrow mountain roads.
Our driver handled the roads with a smooth confidence that was hard to believe. We arrived at Tupiza bus station at 3am and decided to camp out there and wait for the town to wake up. It was slightly disconcerting to see six large gas canisters unloaded from the hold of our bus!
The small kiosks opened at 6am so we went for brekkie with Magdalena and Alexandra whom we had met on the bus over. They are taking a similar route to ourselves and we had a nice few hours chatting with them.
Porters began to busy themselves with their hand carts.
